Renewal

RN RENEWAL:This application should be used by registered nurses who wish to renew their license during a current renewal period (September 1 through December 31 – even numbered years). Click here to login to your nurse gateway. Click on your license to start the renewal application.

LPN RENEWAL:This application should be used by licensed practical nurses who wish to renew their license during a current renewal period (September 1 through December 31 – odd numbered years). Expanded Role LPNs (IV Therapy and/or Hemodialysis) must complete a LPN Expanded Role Renewal Application and submit it with the LPN Renewal Application.Click here to login to your nurse gateway. INACTIVE LICENSE:This application should be used by RN or LPN who wish to renew license as inactive. A nurse holding an inactive license can not practice as a licensed nurse. Click here to login to your nurse gateway. Click on your license to start the renewal application.
LATE RENEWAL: If you do not renew your license during the renewal period, you may still do so during the late renewal immediately following the renewal period.
Late Renewal 1 is January 1-January 30with a renewal fee of $100 plus a late renewal 1 administrative fee of $50.
Late Renewal 2 is February 1-June 30 with a renewal fee of $100 plus a late renewal 2 administrative fee of $150. A criminal background check will be required for all late renewal 2 applications. That fee is $75. License will not be renewed to active status until the criminal background check is completed.Click here to login to your nurse gateway. Temporary Permits for New Graduates

A new graduate (a person that has graduated from an accredited nursing program within the last three months) is eligible to apply for a temporary permit. Please note the following;

  • The new graduate may work within their scope of practice with the temporary permit for 90 days.
  • Temporary permit expires at 90 days from the date of issuance/approval
  • Within those 90 days, the new graduate must test and pass NCLEX.
  • If the new graduate fails NCLEX, the temporary permit becomes invalid and the new graduate is no longer able to work off the temporary permit.
  • If the new graduate does not take NCLEX within the 90 days of holding the temporary permit, the permit becomes invalid and the new graduate is no longer able to work off the temporary permit.
  • Temporary permits are single state permits only.
  • Once a temporary permit has become invalid it cannot be renewed.
  • Temporary permits will not be extended.

New graduates must do the following to be eligible for a temporary permit;

  1. Application for licensure by examination must be on file
  2. Have the official transcript (conferred degree and graduation date) sent the Board
  3. Apply online through the MS Board of Nursing gateway at www.msbn.ms.gov for temporary permit after the Board has received and reviewed the transcript
  4. Submit payment of $25 for temporary permit

Examination

LICENSURE BY EXAMINATION: Application for licensure byNCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN. This application should be used by candidates seeking licensure by examination, including those who need to repeat the NCLEX examination. View the examination registration process.

NCLEX SPECIAL ACCOMODATIONS:This application shouldONLYbe submitted by applicants with accommodations in their nursing program. Complete form for special accommodations. Must be completed by Primary Care Provider.

Temporary Permits for Endorsem*nts

A Endorsem*nt applicants can apply for a temporary nursing permit. The temporary permit is not a license but grants those who have met specific requirements the ability to practice in the state pending licensure. Please seethe requirements below.

  • Graduates of state approved or accredited programs who are license in another state shall be eligible
  • The applicant holds a current, valid, and unencumbered license
  • The applicant must have an endorsem*nt application on file with all fees paid with the Board
  • The applicant must have the official transcript on file with the Board
  • Applicants seeking a single state MS license applying for a temporary permit must submit the following;
  1. Documentation of current in-state employment, notarized letter of promise of employment of the applicant
  • Applicants seeking a multi-state (compact) license, declaring MS as the primary state of residency seeking a temporary permit must submit proof of residency. Proof of residency would include
  1. Current MS driver's license
  2. MS voter's registration
  3. MS Federal Income tax
  4. W2 from US government or any bureau, division or agency thereof indicating MS as declared state of residence
  5. Military form number 2058

The single state temporary permit will be valid for 90 days while awaiting the endorsem*nt process. The fee for the temporary permit is $25. Temporary permits are not renewable. Endorsem*nt

LICENSURE BY ENDORsem*nT:This application should be used to obtain licensure in Mississippi if a currently licensed registered nurse or licensed practical from another state has never held a Mississippi license.

CAMP NURSE:The board, Pursuant to the Miss. Code Ann. Section 75-74-8, may issue a ninety (90) day temporary permit to practice nursing at a youth camp to qualified applicants upon receipt of a completed application and fee. The applicant must hold an active and current license in another jurisdiction.Login to your nurse gateway to apply.

Reinstatement

RN/LPNREINSTATEMENT:For registered nurses and licensed practical nurses who once held a Mississippi license and wish to make it active again. This application should be used bynurses that have allowed their license to lapse or are changing licensure status from inactive to active.

REORIENTATION PERMIT APPLICATION:This application is for registered nurses or licensed practical nurses that are enrolled in a reorientation/refresher course requiring a clinical component. Please contact the Board office at 601-957-6300 or e-mail tgreenlaw@msbn.ms.gov to requestthis application.

​LPN Expanded Role (IV Therapy and Hemodialysis)

IV Therapy

Rule 2.4 Scope of Practice - IV Therapy

A. The LPN performing IV therapy must have successfully completed education and training provided by an IV therapy integrated accredited nursing program or Board approved IV therapy course.

B.Evidence of education and training must be documented via official transcript and accessible for audit purposes.

C.The LPN who endorses a license and has successfully completed an IV Therapy training program through an IV therapy integrated accredited nursing program in another jurisdiction must complete a Board-approved IV therapy delineation course before performing acts of IV therapy.

The evidence of completion must include:

Original Notarized Transcript Form, or

• Official College Transcript, and

• Certificate of Completion

Hemodialysis

Rule 2.5 Scope of Practice – Hemodialysis

A.The LPN performing hemodialysis must have successfully completed education and training certified by the Mississippi State Department of Health and licensed as a dialysis unit, consisting of both theory and clinical for hemodialysis.

B.The LPN that has never completed a hemodialysis training program through a licensed dialysis unit must receive education and training before being permitted to perform acts of hemodialysis.

C.Evidence of education and training must be documented and accessible for audit purposes.

D.The LPN who endorses a license and has successfully completed a hemodialysis training program through a licensed dialysis unit in another jurisdiction must complete a Board approved hemodialysis delineation course before performing acts of hemodialysis.

The evidence of completion must include:

Original Notarized Transcript Form, or

• Official College Transcript, and

• Certificate of Completion

IV Therapy Information

Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT)

Effective July 1, 2019, the Mississippi Board of Nursing no longer regulates Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technicians.Pursuant to House Bill 1048, please be advised all Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technicians are now under the jurisdiction of the Mississippi State Department of Health effective July 1, 2019. All HemodialysisTechnicians also have the authority to administer hemodialysis under the authority of a licensed registered nurse effective July 1, 2019. National Certification should be maintained.
